I came across your blog whilst reviewing Linux distros to replace win 7 on my laptop, after looking at Kali it does have a certain magic to the way it looks and being based on a 3rd party managed repo of Debian unstable is also appealing.
I tried to follow your guide of installing from the mini iso, but I have been unsuccessful. I have tried all of the kernel versions listed and none of them seem to have the right drivers, but the full version of Kali installs without any issues. I am now trying to remove packages but I am finding that the kali-menu package which contains the app.desktop stuff pointing to all of the kali hacking apps etc, is inter dependent on gnome and common. i would assume this is also true for the mini iso install, so how have you done this?
